The foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and the US held a phone call to address the drone attacks on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in the Black Sea.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the bilateral agenda within the framework of the expanded strategic partnership. The call also addressed preparations for President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's visit to the US for the G20 summit.
The ministers thoroughly reviewed recent developments surrounding the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which operates in the Black Sea. Last week, the Kazakh Energy Ministry announced that oil loading operations at the CPC marine terminal had been suspended due to the attacks and that oil production in the country had been temporarily reduced.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry condemned the drone attacks on July 17 and 19 against civilian tankers using CPC infrastructure. The ministry described the attacks as an unacceptable attempt to harm Kazakhstan's economic interests.
The approximately 1,510-kilometer CPC pipeline connects Kazakhstan's oil fields in the Caspian Sea to Russia's port of Novorossiysk. The pipeline carries about 80 percent of Kazakhstan's total oil exports.
