Mohammad Akbarzadeh, Political Deputy of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, announced the expansion of the control area in the Strait of Hormuz. Previously limited only around the Hormuz and Hengam islands, the area now extends from the cities of Jask and Sirik beyond the islands of Qeshm and Greater Tunb. This change means the width of the strait has increased from approximately 32-48 kilometers to 321-482 kilometers.

In April, following the U.S. naval blockade against Iran and the subsequent launch of the Freedom Project, maritime traffic and security in the region have drawn the attention of international observers. The U.S. President's suspension of this project in response to requests from some countries raises questions about how tensions in the region will evolve.
