Widespread power outages in Georgia prompted action from the state security service. Georgia's State Security Service (SSG) announced it had launched a sabotage investigation into the power cuts that affected the entire country on the night of July 24 and the morning of July 25.
The SSG said the investigation was being conducted under Article 318 (sabotage) of the Georgian Criminal Code due to these recurring mass outages.
Under Georgian law, the crime of sabotage penalizes threatening state interests by disrupting, damaging or destroying the normal functioning of state enterprises or critical facilities.
The security service announced that the public would be regularly informed about the progress of the investigation.
