The European Union formally summoned Moscow's representative in Brussels after Russia struck a Latvian diplomatic mission in an attack in Ukraine. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced on social media that Russia's permanent representative to the EU was summoned to the EU External Action Service (EEAS).
Kallas noted that this step was a response to Russia's strike on the Latvian Honorary Consulate in Slovyansk, Ukraine. The EU High Representative described the attack as 'a demonstration of Moscow's complete disregard for international law' and stressed that they continue to fully support Latvia.
Kallas also stated that Russia's indiscriminate attacks on Kyiv and other regions have led to the deliberate targeting of civilians.
The EU's top diplomat also said that following this incident, she plans to propose new sanctions lists targeting Russia's military-industrial complex.
