Russia’s “systematic and increasingly intense” attacks on Ukrainian cities, critical infrastructure and civilians were among the main topics discussed by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during a phone call.
During Wednesday’s call, the two ministers discussed the situation on the ground and ways to maintain and increase pressure on Russia.
France pledges long-term support
Barrot said France would continue supporting Ukraine through bilateral aid, various European mechanisms and France’s G7 presidency.
The French Foreign Ministry said the ministers also assessed upcoming international contacts. The United Nations General Assembly, scheduled for September, would provide an opportunity to mobilize the international community and reiterate support for efforts to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty, freedom and independence.
Goal of “a just and lasting peace”
Barrot stressed that France would stand by Ukraine in the long term and continue working with its partners until “a just and lasting peace” is achieved.
