Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said cooperation between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations has strengthened.
Marcos made this assessment following his participation in the Russia-ASEAN anniversary summit held in Kazan. The Philippine leader also co-chaired the summit alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a statement upon his return to the Philippines, Marcos noted that the summit, dedicated to 35 years of Russia-ASEAN relations, provided an opportunity to assess the progress of the partnership and identify areas for future cooperation in an increasingly complex global environment.
The summit was held in Kazan from June 17-19. During the event's intervals, the Russia-ASEAN Business Forum was also launched.
ASEAN was founded in 1967 and consists of Brunei, East Timor, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. The Philippines will assume the organization's chairmanship in 2026.
