Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said there are many countries in the European Union that disagree over the issue of 'pressure' on Russia.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Tsahkna stated that these countries would oppose additional pressure amid discussions on possible Europe-Russia negotiations.
Tsahkna said, 'We probably have many countries in the European Union that will oppose more pressure on Russia because they will say, 'Negotiations are ongoing and we are mediators, so we must be neutral.'''
Possible negotiator candidates discussed
According to reports in the media, European leaders are said to be searching for a suitable candidate for possible negotiations with Russia. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that the EU is currently limited to speculation.
Among the candidates mentioned are former German chancellors Gerhard Schröder and Angela Merkel, former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, President of the European Council Antonio Costa, former Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, former European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Putin: Europeans should choose whoever they trust
