Odenplan Square in Sweden hosted a demonstration organized at the call of numerous civil society organizations against attacks on Gaza and Lebanon. The protesters called for the attacks to stop.
Demonstrators chanting slogans against Israel carried banners stating that civilians were being killed in Gaza and that schools and hospitals were being bombed. The signs called for an end to attacks on Lebanon, an end to the food shortage and a halt to the war.
Arnholt criticizes political parties
Swedish activist Jonas Arnholt, who supported the demonstration, argued that the freedom granted to Israel to continue its attacks had led to a humanitarian catastrophe. Arnholt also condemned Israel’s attacks in Gaza and its raids in the West Bank.
Describing Israel as a “terrorist state,” Arnholt said politicians opposed to Zionism should come to power in countries.
Assessing the elections to be held in Sweden on September 13, Arnholt argued that the parties in parliament had failed to take a clear stance against Israel’s policies. Arnholt claimed that the existing parties, including the Left Party, had not distanced themselves from what he described as Israel’s war policy, and said that some parties had pointed to Iran over responsibility for the war.
