As security risks persist along maritime routes around Ukraine, the Turkish ship M/V MARIAM M allegedly came under a drone attack. The captain and pilot were allegedly killed, while 13 people were reportedly injured.
There is no verified information about the date and exact location of the incident, the ship's flag, owner, operator or IMO number. No confirmed statement about M/V MARIAM M has been issued by Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs or the Ukrainian authorities.
During the Russia-Ukraine war, commercial sea routes in the Black Sea and around Ukraine have become risky because of drone and missile attacks. Ports around Odesa, Chornomorsk and Izmail, as well as ships using maritime corridors, have previously been affected by similar attacks.
In May 2026, a dry cargo ship owned by a Turkish company and sailing under the Vanuatu flag came under a drone attack while traveling from Odesa to Türkiye; two Turkish crew members were allegedly lightly injured. In July 2026, the Tanzanian-flagged Atlas Bey, owned by a Turkish company, was allegedly attacked off Odesa. Its Azerbaijani captain went missing, while the other crew members were brought ashore.
That same July, the Turkish-flagged Reyhan Sarı was allegedly attacked by a drone in the Black Sea. One sailor was killed and three people were injured.
There is no confirmed link showing that the Atlas Bey and Reyhan Sarı incidents involved the same ship as M/V MARIAM M or the same attack. Different maritime incidents should therefore not be treated as a single event before the ship's name and casualty information are confirmed.
