Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Kyiv is ready to halt attacks on Russian energy facilities. Zelenskyy tied the move to Russia stopping its targeting of Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure and food exports.
In a statement published on X on Monday, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was also ready to take reciprocal steps to reduce tensions. He said Russia must stop targeting the energy sector, critical infrastructure and food exports.
Zelenskyy said the issue could be discussed with the United States and other partners in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. He added that dialogue was under way with U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration on proposals that could bring peace closer. The Ukrainian president said possible solutions existed and that they would discuss the issue with their partners in New York.
The statement came after Trump raised Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries during a phone call on September 20. Zelenskyy and Trump agreed to meet in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, and Zelenskyy said the meeting could significantly affect diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
