Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has launched a comprehensive cabinet reshuffle that includes changes in the government and the leadership of law enforcement agencies. Zelenskiy proposed replacing Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
In a statement on social media, Zelenskiy said, "Ukraine is changing its political strategy. Each priority foreign policy direction will be led by an experienced figure capable of implementing agreements reached at the leaders' level and meeting the expectations of the Ukrainian people."
Zelenskiy stated that he discussed the details with Prime Minister Svyrydenko and that they agreed these changes require a renewal of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Yulia Svyrydenko assumed the prime minister post a year ago, replacing Denys Shmyhal. Previously serving as first deputy prime minister and economy minister, Svyrydenko had established close contact with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump during this period. Seen as the architect of the critical minerals deal signed between Washington and Kyiv last year, Svyrydenko played a significant role in easing the initially tense relationship between Trump and Zelenskiy.
The 39-year-old Svyrydenko said in a post on X, "I am proud to have had the honor of leading the government during one of the most difficult periods in Ukraine's modern history. I thank every woman and man defending Ukrainian soil. Our warriors are the foundation of our strength and independence."
Zelenskiy stated that the new political strategy will focus on key foreign policy priorities such as agreements for the licensed production of Patriot air defense systems, accelerating Ukraine's European Union membership process, and deepening security and economic cooperation with the Gulf region. Zelenskiy thanked Svyrydenko for accepting the offer to lead "a new and important direction in relations with a key partner."
