Ukraine's General Staff announced that since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, Russia has lost approximately 1,384,190 soldiers in the war in Ukraine.
According to the General Staff's assessment dated June 15, this figure includes 1,320 losses recorded in the last day.
Military losses shared in a detailed list
The statement indicated that Russia has lost 12,025 tanks, 24,763 armored combat vehicles, 44,082 artillery systems, 1,870 multiple rocket launchers, and 1,420 air defense systems throughout the war.
The list also included 107,091 vehicles and fuel tanks, 436 aircraft, 353 helicopters, 351,479 drones, 1,664 unmanned ground vehicles, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Parties differ in their statements on losses
Ukraine's General Staff does not disclose its own war losses citing operational secrecy. Assessments by Western independent think tanks generally agree that Russian losses are significantly higher than Ukrainian losses.
CSIS estimates the loss ratio roughly at 2.5 to 1 or 2 to 1. In its January report, the organization estimated that Ukraine likely suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 losses from February 2022 to December 2025, with 100,000 to 140,000 of those being fatalities.
These figures stand out as some of the most striking indicators of the war's attritional toll on the front lines. However, it is also known that the numbers released under wartime conditions form part of the official narratives each side presents about the situation on the ground.
