Türkiye's Embassy in Moscow hosted a reception at the embassy residence to mark the 104th anniversary of 30 August Victory Day. Military attachés serving at foreign embassies attended the event hosted by Ambassador Tanju Bilgiç.
The ceremony began with a one-minute moment of silence, followed by the Turkish national anthem and the Russian national anthem.
Bilgiç then said that the Turkish nation, under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, achieved victory in the War of Independence on 30 August 1922, paving the way for the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye.
“For us, 30 August symbolizes not only a military victory but also an unwavering commitment to independence and sovereignty.”
Bilgiç said the support provided to Türkiye by Soviet Russia during the War of Independence opened an important chapter in the historical relations between the two countries.
Noting that Türkiye and Russia continue to maintain multifaceted cooperation today in various fields, particularly diplomacy, trade, energy, tourism and culture, Bilgiç said dialogue and interaction were fundamental elements of bilateral relations.
Ambassador Bilgiç also expressed his condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives when a passenger vessel capsized off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
A message issued by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for 30 August Victory Day was read at the reception. Guests were served dishes from Turkish cuisine.
