In Russia, scammers changed tactics in 2026, increasing calls made in the name of pension funds and social services. According to data from the MTS Zashchitnik service, the share of such calls targeting individuals over 55 rose from 13 percent to 20 percent year-on-year.
Service officials stated that the most common scam scenario previously involved investment and extra income offers, but now calls impersonating pension and social fund employees have come to the fore.
According to analysts, the second most popular scenario in the first half of 2026 was calls made on behalf of government agencies at 16 percent, while impersonating telecom operators came third at 14 percent. The month with the highest volume of scam calls was March, when 20 percent of all calls in the six-month period took place.
On the other hand, the total number of unwanted calls in the first half of the year decreased by 30 percent compared to the previous year.
