Artyom Dzyuba, Russian football's all-time leading scorer and the former captain of the Russian national team, said at the age of 38 that his professional career may have ended.
Dzyuba left Russian Premier League club Akron Tolyatti in May, at the end of the 2025-2026 season. The striker has not played for any club since then.
Responding to questions from journalists, Dzyuba said, "My career is over. That's all, guys." However, the Russian footballer did not officially announce his retirement.

Dzyuba said he could play in the Fonbet Russian Cup, which began in July and will run until June 2027, leaving open the possibility of returning to the pitch.
Dzyuba's achievements in Russian football
Coming through Spartak Moscow's academy, Dzyuba was one of the prominent figures in Russian football for many years. The footballer scored the 234th goal of his career in March 2025 while playing for Akron Tolyatti, further cementing his place in Russian football history.
Dzyuba scored 264 goals in total for his clubs and national team, winning four Russian Premier League titles, three Russian Super Cups and four Russian Cups. He won all but one of these trophies as a Zenit St. Petersburg player.

His record for the Russian national team
Dzyuba made 56 appearances for the Russian national team and scored 31 goals. That record made him, alongside Alexander Kerzhakov, the joint-highest scorer in the history of the national team.
Dzyuba was also one of the standout figures at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Russia. The striker converted the penalty that brought Russia level against Spain and played a role in the match, which Russia won 4-3 on penalties to reach the quarter-finals.
