Matvey Safonov, goalkeeper for the Russian national team and Paris Saint-Germain, has been nominated for France Football’s goalkeeper of the year award.
The European football awards ceremony will be held in London on October 26.
He won nine trophies with the Paris club
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been part of the Paris Saint-Germain squad since August 2024. Safonov has won two Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cups, two French league titles, one French Cup, one French Super Cup and one Intercontinental Cup with the French club.
The Russian goalkeeper made four consecutive saves during the penalty shootout in Paris Saint-Germain’s Intercontinental Cup final against Brazilian side Flamengo. Safonov thus became the first goalkeeper in the history of FIFA-supervised tournaments to achieve this feat.
