A Russian marine unit operating in the special military operation in Ukraine has modernized a mobile fire group using captured Western-made military equipment parts.
A marine with the call sign "Kamaz" told RIA Novosti that specialists from the 177th Guards Regiment encountered various technical difficulties with the ammunition supply system and weapon settings during the modernization.
"During the adaptation process, there were frequent ammunition jams. Our specialists came to the firing range, examined everything, and explained what needed to be changed. We proceeded piece by piece, fixing one section first, then another," Kamaz said, adding that the system was improved step by step.
Balance mechanism and 360-degree rotation
As part of the modernization work, the structure of the installation was overhauled, and the counterweight mechanism was redesigned. This allowed the weapon group to rotate 360 degrees without interruption.
Sighting system and firing accuracy
The marine emphasized that special attention was paid to adjusting the sighting complex. After each improvement, expert teams recalibrated the cameras and weapons, ensuring that both machine guns could accurately fire at the same target. "It was difficult to converge them on a single point. But after the adjustments, the system worked as it should," he added.
Capabilities of the modernized system
The updated mobile fire group is equipped with thermal and optical cameras, equipment operation monitoring systems, and remote fire control. The installation's ammunition capacity reaches 2,500 rounds, and its effective firing range extends to 3 kilometers.
