Russia has banned the import of foreign satellite communication devices for six months on national security grounds. This decision came into effect with government decree No. 488 signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on April 29. The decree prohibits the import of radio-electronic devices, especially satellite terminals that receive and send signals from space communication objects, without permission from the State Radio Frequencies Commission. This includes the US-based SpaceX company's Starlink systems. The ban will be supervised by the Federal Customs Service and the Federal Security Service (FSB). The decree states that the purpose of this restriction is to protect Russia's national security. Previously, according to a statement from an advisor to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, allegations had arisen that Russia was using Starlink satellite internet in military drones. SpaceX had announced that it had taken measures against such uses.
