Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s special envoy for investment and economic cooperation and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, responded on X on September 26 to a post by Tino Chrupalla, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD). “All true. Jointly we will reopen Nord Stream. AfD is the voice of German people that fights for German energy sovereignty, prosperity, peace and cooperation,” Dmitriev wrote.
On the anniversary of the attack on the pipelines, Chrupalla had proposed an international investigation into the sabotage of Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 and insisted the pipelines be repaired and reopened.
The pipelines were damaged by explosions on September 26, 2022. Sweden and Denmark closed their investigations in February 2024 without naming those responsible, while Germany’s investigation continues. The AfD favors repairing the pipelines and resuming Russian gas supplies.
