Vladimir Konstantinov, head of the Crimean parliament, responded harshly to Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov’s threats to turn Crimea into an island. Konstantinov described these remarks as a Nazi approach.
Konstantinov claimed there is a shared ideological basis between the Kiev administration and Nazi ideology. He made this statement following an ironic comment by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who highlighted Fedorov’s new appointment.
Lavrov noted that Fedorov has just started his new role and needs to get accustomed to it first. He also expressed that it is unclear exactly how Fedorov intends to "turn Crimea into an island."
Konstantinov stated that the people of Crimea have long been accustomed to such statements. He added that an immunity has developed against attempts aimed at destabilizing the peninsula.
Konstantinov’s remarks have brought tensions around Crimea back into focus. The statements indicate that harsh rhetoric between Moscow and Kiev continues.
