A drone attack targeted a locomotive at Yagodyn Station, approximately 2 kilometers from Ukraine’s border with Poland, while former CIA Director David Petraeus was allegedly on another train. The incident occurred in the Volyn region.
The attack took place on September 13. A diplomatic train carrying European officials crossed the Ukraine-Poland border shortly before the incident.
The diplomatic train carried former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt and the United Kingdom’s national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, as well as security advisers from several European Union countries. Petraeus was allegedly on another train at the station during the attack.
Ukrainian Railways said that an employee of the Central Monitoring Group spotted the drone approaching the locomotive. The company said a warning was issued about 15 minutes before the attack to allow the train to be evacuated, adding that routes and schedules were being changed constantly because of the threats.
It has not been confirmed whether the diplomatic train was the target. Ukrainian Railways said attempts to attack civilian railway vehicles were continuing and called for security instructions to be followed promptly.
