A new legislative proposal to support families has been put forward in Russia. Vladislav Grib, Vice President of the Russian Federal Chamber of Lawyers and Deputy Secretary of the Russian Civic Chamber, announced that the annual paid leave for parents should be increased.
Speaking to RIA Novosti, Grib proposed raising the current basic leave of 28 days to 35 days for families with children and 42 days for large families. Grib said, "I would tie the leave duration to the number of children in the family. If there are children, leave could be 35 days for parents and 42 days for large families. Because sometimes after a holiday with children, you need another small vacation, and I say this as a father of eight."
Under the Russian Labor Code, the annual basic paid leave is 28 calendar days. For irregular working hours, at least 3 days are added, and for harmful or dangerous working conditions, 7 days are added.
Meanwhile, Yaroslav Nilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans, had previously proposed granting parents of first-graders the right not to work on September 1. Nilov stated that this day should be counted as leave or used as unpaid leave.
