Belarus Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Sekreta said that Minsk will respond with all its potential if Ukraine violates the border.
In an interview with RT, Sekreta said: "Our red lines have been clearly defined by our president. That red line is our border. If the border is crossed without permission or under conditions of attack, we will respond with all our potential and capabilities."
The Belarusian diplomat stated that Ukrainians are aware of this and expressed doubt about the sincerity of President Volodymyr Zelensky's statements. Sekreta said: "These temporary remarks were perhaps aimed at boosting his declining popularity among the people and soldiers."
Zelensky had earlier asked Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to remove technical equipment from the border area, which is allegedly used to adjust attacks on Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader said: "There are transmitters on the towers. Along two regions bordering Ukraine, there is equipment that adjusts fire on our people. Let him remove it. If he does not, we will."
Lukashenko, however, stressed that Minsk does not want to fight Ukrainians. During a meeting with Moscow Regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov, Lukashenko noted that most of those at the Belarusian border are Ukrainian territorial defense units. He said: "These are civilians who do not want to fight. Will we shoot these tractor drivers, milkmaids and workers' children? We also do not want to fight Ukrainians."
