A fire broke out after an explosion at the Krasnozavodsk Chemical Plant in Russia’s Moscow region. The explosion occurred in Workshop No. 4 of the facility, which produces ammunition and pyrotechnic products, and the workshop completely collapsed.
An allegation that seven people had died in the explosion was not confirmed by officials. More workers could have been inside the workshop, while search-and-rescue efforts continued.
People living near the facility said they heard three powerful explosions before the fire. More than 40 workers were inside the factory at the time, and evacuation procedures were carried out.

Footage from the scene showed flames rising above the factory and dense smoke. Initial assessments indicated that the explosion may have been caused by a technical malfunction. No air raid alert was issued in the area.
Production at the Krasnozavodsk plant
The Krasnozavodsk Chemical Plant produces ammunition and pyrotechnic products, as well as explosives, gunpowder and components used in ammunition and missile systems.

The facility is part of Russia’s supply chain for artillery shells, multiple-launch rocket systems and ballistic missiles.
The factory was targeted in a Ukrainian attack on July 7, 2025. The Ukrainian army said at the time that the facility produced thermobaric warheads used in Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles.
