Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the Ukrainian people in a letter he sent to Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
In the letter, Aliyev conveyed his best wishes to Zelenskyy on his own behalf and on behalf of the Azerbaijani people. He expressed satisfaction with the level reached by friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
Emphasis on energy in the Baku-Kyiv partnership
Aliyev said that, alongside political dialogue, high-level reciprocal visits and economic and humanitarian cooperation were the main factors strengthening the strategic partnership between Baku and Kyiv. He placed particular emphasis on the two countries’ longstanding energy cooperation.
The letter expressed appreciation for Zelenskyy’s working visit to Azerbaijan in April and the outcome of the meeting held during that visit. Aliyev said regular contacts and the support Azerbaijan and Ukraine provide each other on territorial integrity and sovereignty have helped develop relations between the two states.
Azerbaijan pledges continued humanitarian support
Aliyev said that high-level dialogue had created favorable conditions for advancing bilateral cooperation in trade, the economy, humanitarian assistance, agriculture and investment, and stressed that Azerbaijan would continue its humanitarian support for the Ukrainian people.
At the end of his letter, Aliyev said he believed joint efforts to strengthen friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine would continue in line with the interests of the two countries’ peoples. He wished Zelenskyy health and happiness and the Ukrainian people peace, tranquility and prosperity.
