This page is for Turkish citizens planning a short-term tourist or business visit to Russia. Russia's unified e-visa (единая электронная виза) is obtained online without visiting a consulate and is processed within no more than 4 calendar days. Below, you will find who can obtain an e-visa and for what purposes, the application steps, payment rules, and the checkpoints through which you can enter and leave with an e-visa.
What is an e-visa and what purposes can it be used for?
- The e-visa is issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Türkiye is among the 64 countries whose citizens can obtain an e-visa.
- An e-visa is issued for the following purposes:
- private and business visits
- tourism
- participation in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic, and sporting events
- An e-visa cannot be used for travel for employment, education, or transit. In these cases, you must obtain a regular visa from a consulate (see R1.3).
- An invitation, hotel reservation, or other document showing the purpose of the trip is not required. It is sufficient to enter the name, address, and telephone number of the place where you will stay.
- An e-visa is not issued to persons who also hold Russian citizenship.
- If your passport contains a valid regular Russian visa, you do not need to obtain an e-visa.
Periods: 120-day validity, 30-day stay, single entry
- Since 23 August 2025, the e-visa has been valid for 120 days from the date of issue.
- You may stay for a maximum of 30 days from the date of entry. Your departure date from Russia cannot be later than the 120th day from the date the e-visa was issued.
- The e-visa permits single entry. After leaving, you need a new e-visa to enter again.
- A 30-day stay does not mean "720 hours." The entry date and departure date count as two separate days. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends checking your permitted stay using the visa calculator on its website.
- For e-visas issued before 23 August 2025, the previous rules apply: 60-day validity and a maximum stay of 16 days.
- Extension is possible only in exceptional circumstances: if urgent medical treatment is required, or if you cannot leave the country due to force majeure or a natural disaster. The Russian Interior Ministry office at the place where your migration registration is held extends the stay by issuing a regular, non-electronic visa.
Application step by step
- Create an account. Applications can only be submitted through the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' e-visa website or its mobile application downloaded through the link on the website. You must create a personal account.
- Apply at the right time. You may apply no earlier than 86 days and no later than 4 days before your planned entry date. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also recommends applying no later than 4 calendar days before entry.
- Complete the form. First, you consent to the processing of your data. Then you upload JPEG-format digital photographs of your passport information page and your face.
- Pay the fee. An application for which the fee has not been paid will not be processed. Payment confirmation takes between 20 and 45 minutes.
- Wait for the result. The application is processed within no more than 4 calendar days. The application day is not included in this period. If an error is found in the application, it will be returned to you for correction within no more than 2 days. Once you correct and resubmit it, the 4-day period starts again from the beginning.
- Download the notification. If the result is positive, download the e-visa notification in PDF format. Print it or save it on your phone.
- Show it during your journey. Show the notification to the carrier's employee when boarding and to the passport control officer at the border.
- You can track your application status through your personal account or the mobile application. Statuses include: draft saved, awaiting payment, processing, correction required, and processing completed.
- The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that you do not use a Gmail address because notifications may arrive late or not at all.
Photo requirements
- The photograph must have been taken no more than 6 months before the application date and must reflect your current appearance.
- Only you should appear in the photograph. No objects or other people should be visible in the background.
- Your face must be photographed straight on. Your head must not be tilted or turned sideways. Your mouth must be closed, and your eyes must be open and clearly visible.
- The background must be light-colored and plain. There must be no shadows on the face, flash reflections, or red eyes.
- People who cannot have a photograph taken with their head uncovered due to religious beliefs may be photographed with a covering that does not conceal their facial features. The face must be clearly visible from below the chin to the top of the forehead.
- If you wear glasses, your eyes must be clearly visible. Tinted lenses and reflections on the lenses are not accepted.
- The photograph must be borderless and have a 35 × 45 ratio. The face must cover 70–80% of the photograph.
Fee and payment
- There is a fee for an e-visa application. The amount is displayed in the system during the application process.
- Children under 6 years old on the application date are exempt from the fee.
- Payment can only be made with cards issued by banks outside Russia (Visa, MasterCard, etc.). The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that payment with cards issued by Russian banks is not possible due to sanctions.
- The invoice is issued in UAE dirhams or Chinese yuan. You can pay with a card linked to an account in Turkish lira, euros, or another currency; the amount is converted automatically. Your bank determines the conversion commission.
- Payment by bank transfer or PayPal is currently not possible.
- If you receive an error during payment, first consult your own bank.
The fee is non-refundable under any circumstances: Whether your application is rejected or you enter incorrect information, the fee you paid will not be refunded. An application cannot be withdrawn after payment.
Through which checkpoints can you enter and leave with an e-visa?
- With an e-visa, you may enter and leave Russia only through border checkpoints designated by the Government of Russia. You cannot leave through a checkpoint that is not on the list.
- Some checkpoints frequently used by people traveling from Türkiye:
- Airports: Moscow (Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, Zhukovsky), St. Petersburg (Pulkovo), Kazan, Sochi, Krasnodar (Pashkovsky), Mineralnye Vody, Rostov-on-Don (Platov), Yekaterinburg (Koltsovo), Ufa, Novosibirsk (Tolmachevo), Kaliningrad (Khrabrovo), Grozny, Makhachkala, Vladikavkaz (Beslan), Nalchik
- Seaports: Sochi (international passenger and cruise terminal), St. Petersburg
- Land checkpoint: Verkhny Lars (Georgian border, North Ossetia)
- Land, railway, sea, river, and pedestrian checkpoints are listed separately. The Ivangorod checkpoint has been temporarily closed for repairs since 1 February 2024.
- The presence of an airport on the list does not mean that there will be a flight to it on that date. Check with your airline when purchasing your ticket.
After arriving in Russia
- You may travel anywhere in Russia with an e-visa. Areas, institutions, and facilities accessible only with special permission are excluded (see R1.9).
- Migration registration (миграционный учёт): within 7 working days after arrival, a notification of arrival must be submitted for the address where you will stay. If you stay at a hotel, the hotel handles the registration. If you stay in a private residence, the notification is submitted to an Interior Ministry migration office, a Russian Post branch, or a municipal service center (МФЦ «Мои документы») (see R2.1).
- E-visa rules require you to have valid health insurance throughout your stay in Russia. For details of the insurance requirement, see R1.7.
- Incorrect information in the application may result in the issued e-visa being canceled at the border or inside Russia.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the application until the last day. The application day is not included in the 4-day period; if a correction is requested, the period starts again.
- Buying a ticket before the e-visa is approved. Track the result of your application through your personal account or the mobile application; buy the ticket after receiving the result.
- Entering incorrect information. An issued e-visa cannot be corrected; a new application and a new fee are required.
- Trying to enter Russia through a checkpoint on the list and leave through one that is not on the list.
- Not submitting separate applications for children included in a passport.
- Applying with a Gmail address and missing the notifications.
- Working or enrolling in school with an e-visa.
Frequently asked questions
- When does the e-visa become valid? It can be used for entry from the moment you receive the notification that it has been issued.
- Four days have passed and I have not received a response. What should I do? First check your personal account; your application may have been returned for correction. If 5 days have passed since the application or correction date, write your application number, nationality, and passport number to evisa_info@kdmid.ru.
- There is an error in the issued e-visa. Can it be corrected? No. You must submit a new application. You can report the error, together with the application and passport numbers, to evisa_info@kdmid.ru.
- I will travel through Russia to a third country. Can I use an e-visa? No. Transit is not among the purposes of an e-visa. You must obtain a transit visa from a consulate (see R1.3).
- Can I stay in Russia for more than 30 days with an e-visa? As a rule, no. Extension is possible only in circumstances such as urgent medical treatment, force majeure, or a natural disaster, and requires the Interior Ministry to issue a regular visa.
- I did not enter my insurance information in the application. Will this be a problem? According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, missing insurance information is not grounds for refusal, return, or denial of entry. Nevertheless, traveling with insurance covering Russia is recommended (see R1.7).
