Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced a protest while speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
After Netanyahu took the podium and began his speech, representatives of several delegations stood up and headed for the exits. Footage from the General Assembly hall shows groups of diplomats leaving their seats during the Israeli prime minister’s address.
The protest drew the attention of those in the hall and international media. Despite the departure of some delegates, Netanyahu continued his speech, addressing regional security, Iran and conflicts in the Middle East.
Protests also took place outside the UN building
Netanyahu’s speech was accompanied by protests not only inside the General Assembly hall. Demonstrations also took place around the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Participants protested Israel’s policies and military operations in the Gaza Strip. Against the backdrop of the annual gathering of world leaders and diplomatic delegations, the protests drew heightened attention in the area around the UN headquarters.
The delegates’ departure during Netanyahu’s speech became one of the most notable episodes of his appearance at the UN General Assembly.
