It was claimed that Russian troops captured a settlement using an unusual concealment tactic during Russia's military operation in Ukraine. Dmitry Makarevich, commander of an assault squad attached to the 228th Regiment, said his soldiers hid near a fence to approach a settlement under Ukrainian army control.
Makarevich said, "My soldiers watched the enemy from right behind the fence and stayed there for two days to gather sufficient forces. They lived under the fence for two days, collected operational intelligence, and waited for other small infantry groups to arrive." The commander did not name the settlement.
According to the Russian commander, an open area of about 800 meters had to be crossed to reach the center of the settlement. Despite Ukrainian patrols moving within 15-20 meters, the soldiers managed to hide under the fence. The unit continued observing and building up forces until it had enough strength for the assault.
Makarevich summarized the operation, saying, "We entered from the center; the enemy did not expect us. We began moving from the interior toward the flanks. The enemy did not expect us; all emphasis was placed on the flanks and entry points." The Russian commander's claims have not been independently verified.
