Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to the Russian president, said the United States had blocked Russia’s right to use the dollar and euro as reserve currencies.
Speaking at a journalists’ briefing in New Delhi organized by Sputnik ahead of the BRICS summit, Peskov said the development had prompted Russia to turn to the use of its own currencies.
The Russian official argued that national currencies were no worse than the US dollar. Peskov also said Russia had begun proposing that different countries use national currencies in trade.
