Russia's Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova said that the voting rights of Russian citizens at temporary overseas polling stations must be protected.
Lantratova noted that some countries are displaying discriminatory attitudes toward Russian citizens and stressed the importance of taking special measures on this issue.
The official made the remarks at a meeting that addressed good practices for protecting participants' rights in Russia's electoral process. Lantratova stated that safeguarding the rights of Russians voting abroad is a priority, particularly due to the policies pursued by unfriendly countries.
Lantratova also announced that her institution would work with the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Central Election Commission on this matter. The goal, it was stated, is to make the voting process at overseas polling stations safer and more accessible.
Russia's Central Election Commission had previously announced plans to open more than 300 polling stations in over 150 countries on the single voting day in 2026. This plan directly concerns Russian voters living abroad or those who are outside the country on election day.
