Magdalena Andersson, leader of the opposition left-wing bloc that won the election, called on the European Union to seize frozen Russian assets.
Andersson called for Russian-owned frozen assets to be seized and used. In response to Belgium’s legal concerns over assets held by a custodian within its jurisdiction, she said the country must resolve these issues.

European Parliament pressure over Russian assets
More than 120 lawmakers from different political groups in the European Parliament are increasing pressure on the Brussels administration, which supports policies toward Ukraine. The lawmakers are calling for the issue of seizing frozen Russian state assets for use in financing Ukraine to be brought back onto the agenda.
Moscow will respond to any potential seizure
Moscow has repeatedly described the freezing of Russian assets in Europe as illegal. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia would respond if Western countries seized frozen Russian assets.
