Europe is facing low natural gas storage levels ahead of the difficult autumn-winter season. Gazprom chief Miller said underground natural gas storage facilities in Europe were 72% full as of October 1.
Miller said historic lows had been recorded in the natural gas sector in European countries. The amount of gas in European storage facilities was also 11.3 billion cubic meters below the level recorded during the same period last year.

Incukalns facility reaches record-low fill level
The fill level at Incukalns, the only underground natural gas storage facility in the Baltic states, fell to 49%. This was recorded as a record-low level for October 1.
According to information Gazprom based on data from Gas Infrastructure Europe, net gas injections into the Incukalns facility during the third quarter also fell to their lowest level for the same quarter since records began.
EU target is a 90% fill level
The European Union had made it mandatory to fill natural gas storage facilities to 90% in response to the energy crisis following the Russia-Ukraine War.

The bloc changed its storage rules last year, giving member states flexibility regarding the target under difficult market conditions. Under the regulation, the 90% target may be reached between October 1 and December 1, while filling storage facilities to 80% is also allowed under certain conditions.
