French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Syria launched a wave of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries despite European Union sanctions. During the visit, more than 16 strategic agreements were signed, primarily in energy, infrastructure, economy, aviation, transportation, and investment.
A Syrian Foreign Ministry representative described Macron's visit to Damascus as a 'historic turning point' in bilateral relations. The representative stated that the visit yielded significant results in political, economic, and investment fields.
The Syrian official stressed that the more than 16 strategic agreements signed are a sign of mutual trust, and said these agreements will create new cooperation opportunities in economic, investment, and development fields.
The official said the results of the visit show that Syria has entered a new phase of international partnership based on mutual interest and respect. He added that attempts to destabilize the country cannot alter this process.
The Syrian representative also referred to the two primitive bomb attacks that occurred during Macron's visit. He noted that despite these attacks, state institutions managed the situation effectively, and the actions could not affect the visit's program or objectives.
Underlining that the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks will be brought to justice, the representative said, 'Justice will certainly hold accountable the terrorist hands that want stability neither for Syria nor for the world.'
The Syrian official also stressed that terrorist acts cannot stop Syria's reconstruction process and its opening to the outside world. 'Terrorism cannot halt the march toward stability and international cooperation, nor can it undermine the process of rebuilding Syria and strengthening its international partnerships,' he said.
