Ukraine's National Police announced that two police officers and a military deserter were injured in an explosion during a traffic stop in the Odesa region. The incident occurred in the Podolsk district.
According to the police statement, officers stopped a moped driver for a traffic violation. An identity check revealed that the 52-year-old driver was a soldier who had left his unit without permission. The individual then pulled out a grenade, made threats, and shortly after, the explosion occurred.
An investigation team was dispatched to the scene, and work is ongoing.
This incident has once again brought to the fore the violent cases occurring during mobilization checks in Ukraine. Police also stated that last Thursday in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a person detonated a grenade during an identity check, injuring a military enlistment office employee, a police officer, and the attacker.
Tensions and violent incidents during Ukraine's compulsory military recruitment processes are frequently a topic of debate. Online, there are videos allegedly showing military enlistment officials forcibly taking men and beating them. Many men of military age are trying to avoid conscription by fleeing the country, setting fire to enlistment offices, or hiding.
