American director Woody Allen is filming his new movie on the streets of Madrid, AFP reports. Shooting on the 90-year-old director’s 51st film began in the Spanish capital in early October.
“I have always considered Madrid a very elegant and beautiful city, ideal for the diplomatic atmosphere I wanted to convey in the story,” Allen said at a press conference. He described the film as “a comedy with romance, intrigue and betrayal—all the ingredients that, in my view, make a story good.”

The director of Annie Hall, Manhattan and Midnight in Paris, and a four-time Oscar winner, has mainly worked in Europe in recent years. He became isolated in Hollywood after scandals, although he has never been convicted and denies the allegations.
According to Madrid City Hall, the film, whose title will include the word “Madrid,” will create nearly 1,200 direct jobs and about 2,300 indirect jobs. City and regional authorities have provided funding for the production.
