A Russian soldier serving in the special military operation zone in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has drawn attention for skills he brought to the front line from his civilian life as a former culture center director. The soldier detected and enabled the destruction of an American MaxxPro armored combat vehicle belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Speaking to RIA Novosti, an official with the call sign 'Bars', a battalion commander of a marine unit within the 'Center' force group, said the soldier serves in an unmanned aerial systems unit. The soldier carries out critical tasks such as aerial reconnaissance, artillery fire adjustment, and detection of enemy targets.
Operation moment and destruction
Commander Bars described the soldier's success with these words: "As a MaxxPro was moving from the northern part of Novy Donbass, our comrade quickly identified this armored vehicle and relayed its movement coordinates. Thanks to his swift response, FPV drone teams carried out the attack and destroyed the armored vehicle."
The MaxxPro is known as a U.S.-made mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) armored vehicle. It is one of numerous pieces of military equipment provided to Ukraine by Western allies.
Previous successful detections
The commander also emphasized that the performance of this personnel, who had previously worked as a culture center director, was not limited to this incident. The soldier had previously detected the movements of enemy assault groups and the activities of Ukrainian mortar batteries multiple times, providing his unit with up-to-date intelligence.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on June 16 that marines of the 'Center' force group had liberated the Novy Donbass settlement in the DPR.
