Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla pointed to US sanctions as responsible for the electricity crisis in his country. In a statement on the social media platform X, the minister claimed that the outages in the national power system are a direct result of the blockade imposed by Washington.
Rodríguez Parrilla said, "The US's genocidal blockade against Cuba, particularly the energy siege, is the direct cause of the outages in the National Electric System (SEN)." The minister emphasized that these policies not only hinder fuel imports but also the procurement of necessary parts and equipment, collaboration with foreign experts, and access to international financing.
This statement came after a new nationwide power grid collapse occurred in Cuba. In recent months, a series of major outages have disrupted electricity supply on the island.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Havana issued a warning about the state of Cuba's power grid. The embassy stated, "Cuba's power grid is becoming increasingly unstable," noting that in 2026 there has been a sixth total grid failure and that in July alone three outages occurred. US citizens were urged to be prepared for widespread disruptions, including cell phone and internet outages.
