During the Monaco Grand Prix, Lance Stroll’s reduction of speed in the tunnel section sparked reactions from Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc. This part of the race was highlighted by radio communications.
Stroll started the race from 22nd position on the streets of Monaco and nearly hit the wall on the second lap. The Canadian driver regained control at the last moment as he reported his car sliding to the left in the tunnel.
Stroll’s lighthearted response while relaying this moment to race engineer Andrew Vizard drew attention. However, the situation was much harsher for Antonelli at the same time.
The Mercedes driver maintained a high pace from the start of the race, opening a gap ahead of the Ferraris. When he reached Stroll, overtaking was not as easy as expected.
On lap 50, as Antonelli approached the tunnel exit, he reacted strongly to Stroll’s failure to yield and criticized the Canadian driver by calling him "a real idiot." The young driver managed to pass Stroll only after exiting the tunnel, before the Nouvelle chicane.
Soon after, similar traffic issues appeared in front of Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver requested a penalty for Stroll over the radio to his team.
Stroll’s race ended on lap 57 when he crashed into the Antony Noghes outer wall. Although questions arose about whether the track surface deterioration contributed to the incident, Stroll explained that the main cause was the motor brake problem he had experienced throughout the race.
The Canadian driver said the car pushed in some corners and pulled in others, describing the system as inconsistent. He also mentioned feeling as if the throttle pedal was partially stuck open in one of the final corners.
On the Aston Martin side, Fernando Alonso moved up into the top 10 thanks to a 10-second penalty given after the race, securing the team’s first points of the season. Alonso finished 10th in Monaco, earning Aston Martin a single point.
