YOUR NEXT STEP

1. Ask your bank whether your card will work in Russia

Before departing, obtain information from your own bank about using cards issued abroad in Russia.

Money and payments

  • Before departing, obtain information from your own bank about using cards issued abroad in Russia.
  • Pay the e-visa fee with a card issued by a bank outside Russia; do not use a Russian bank card, bank transfer, or PayPal.
  • Convert different currencies into rubles at the official exchange rate on the day of departure, then into dollars, and check the total.
  • If your total cash and traveler's checks exceed the equivalent of US$10,000 upon entry or exit, submit a written customs declaration.

Flights and routes

  • Check that the arrival and departure airports are on the list of e-visa border checkpoints designated by the Russian Government.
  • Obtain a transit visa if you will leave the transit area in Russia, travel through Russia by land, or travel to Belarus or Kazakhstan via Russia.
  • Monitor your flight status with the airline because regional entry or air traffic may be restricted for security reasons.
